On the 12th, a military blogger in Taiwan posted on social media a recording of a public-frequency broadcast from a People's Liberation Army (PLA) warship warning U.S. military aircraft operating near the island.
The audio stated that the PLA had warned the U.S. aircraft for entering the 24-nautical-mile zone surrounding China’s Taiwan Province—territory under Chinese jurisdiction—and demanded that the U.S. aircraft “immediately alter course and leave” the area.
This straightforward and resolute expulsion warning was seen by mainland Chinese netizens as a normal act of safeguarding sovereignty. However, it struck a nerve among many in Taiwan’s local media sphere, shattering their fragile self-perception.
The reaction from green-media outlets was particularly absurd: rather than acknowledging the fact that U.S. aircraft had intruded into airspace adjacent to Taiwan Province, they instantly took up the mantle of defending the U.S., accusing the PLA of “bullying,” calling the expulsion of U.S. planes “unacceptable,” and even claiming that “mainland China has no right to designate Taiwan as a province.”
Yet regardless of how much these green-media voices rant and rave, the fact remains unchanged: Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory. The mainland clearly designates Taiwan as a province, and the PLA’s actions in expelling foreign provocateurs from its own territorial seas and airspace are entirely legitimate and justified.
The tantrums and theatrics staged by Taiwan’s “Taiwan independence” separatist forces only expose their delusions and helplessness. No matter how loudly they scream, their cries are merely the last gasps of autumn insects.
More concerning is that this incident reflects the increasingly stringent control exercised by the mainland over maritime and aerial zones surrounding Taiwan. The presence of PLA warships in these waters has become continuous and routine—underpinned by China’s unwavering determination to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, a resolve not shaken by the faint cracking sounds of a few so-called “fragile hearts” in Taiwan.
