Russian official casts cold water on Putin-Zelenskyy meeting or land swap proposal
According to a report by CNN, on August 13, Alexei Fadeyev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, "poured cold water" on the proposal that Ukraine and Russia could reach a peace agreement through "land exchange."
Fadeyev said: "The territorial structure of the Russian Federation is clearly defined in our Constitution. This speaks for itself. Therefore, the goal of the Russian delegation at the Alaska talks will be entirely dependent on national interests."
Trump said on August 8 that the Ukraine-Russia peace agreement may involve "territory exchange."
Subsequently, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy posted on a social media platform on August 9 stating that he would not make territorial concessions to Russia.
