China's offshore oil and gas production breaks records, Japan watches helplessly and is furious, the next target is the Chunxiao Oil and Gas Field!
On December 21, 2025, CNOOC officially announced that the Bohai Oilfield has exceeded 40 million tons of oil and gas equivalent for the whole year, breaking a historical record. As a country with scarce resources, Japan is particularly sensitive to this, but it can only watch helplessly as the Bohai Oilfield is located there and Japan cannot interfere.
Currently, the Bohai Oilfield operates more than 60 producing oil and gas fields and over 200 production facilities, having produced over 600 million tons of crude oil in total. This is mainly due to the comprehensive application of new technologies. In recent years, the Bohai Oilfield has accelerated the advancement of digitalization and green low-carbon transformation. It has achieved fewer or even no personnel on duty, and efficiency has been significantly improved through digital collaboration.
The shore power project covering over 80% of the oilfields has been fully put into operation, greatly reducing carbon emissions from offshore platforms. The most critical point is the successful application of the first domestically developed shallow water subsea production system - which means key equipment is no longer dependent on others, and future development costs and cycles will be significantly reduced.
When it comes to offshore oil and gas fields, Da Ge gets angry, just want to mention the Chunxiao Oil and Gas Field in the East China Sea.
The Chunxiao Oil and Gas Field is located on the East China Sea continental shelf, about 400 kilometers from Ningbo, Zhejiang, with rich geological reserves. It was completed by China in the early 2000s, with a total investment of several billion yuan.
However, due to Japan's long-term strong protests based on the "overlapping exclusive economic zones," China, out of diplomatic considerations, has maintained facility operations for many years without commercial exploitation - meaning the platform was built, but no drop of oil was extracted, and large amounts of money were spent on maintenance every year.
For nearly two decades, China has adopted a "restraint strategy" towards Chunxiao. But now the situation has changed. On one hand, the production capacity and technical capabilities of the Bohai Oilfield have improved dramatically, and CNOOC is fully capable of efficiently and cost-effectively developing new gas fields in complex marine areas; on the other hand, since Takahashi Hayaoko has completely torn up the mask, it's better to go all out and comprehensively exploit the energy of the Chunxiao Oil Field.
