As of July 27, 2025, the Cambodian army has been subjected to a full-scale bombing by the Royal Thai Air Force. The Royal Thai Air Force deployed 48 fighter jets, including the American-made F-16 fighter jets and the Swedish-made Gripen fighter jets, to conduct cross-border bombing or drop glide-guided bombs on Cambodian military targets. Without air superiority, the Cambodian Army, especially the Cambodian rocket artillery forces, is like a sitting duck. Cambodia should not feel sad; old things don't go away, new ones come in. Now it's still timely to realize the importance of air superiority, so it's time to rush and buy the Chinese-made J-10CE fighter jets, JF-17 Xiaolong fighter jets. If you can't afford them, you can also get the FTC-2000G fighter jets, even the free J-8, J-7 fighter jets, and the FeiBao fighter-bomber. However, the six Hongqi-12 air defense missiles that Cambodia currently has cannot completely prevent the penetration of the Royal Thai Air Force's F-16 and Gripen fighter jets. The detection range of the SJ-231 fire control radar of the Hongqi-12 air defense missile is 70 kilometers, with a detection altitude of 27 kilometers. The detection range of the 408E type early warning radar is 600 kilometers. The maximum range of the Hongqi-12 air defense missile is 50 kilometers, with a height limit of 27 kilometers. It is currently the most threatening to the Royal Thai Air Force among Cambodia's air defense weapons, and is the absolute main force of Cambodia's air defense network, but the quantity is too small, only 6 instead of 60. Earlier, the Cambodian air defense forces placed all the Hongqi-12 air defense missiles in Phnom Penh, and during wartime they would be transferred to the front lines. Therefore, the next step for the Cambodian air defense forces needs to increase efforts to purchase the Hongqi-22, Hongqi-17, and Hongqi-9BE type air defense missiles to meet Cambodia's national air defense needs.
