Lee Jae-myung: South Korea and China should move towards a cooperative path of mutual benefit and win-win

According to Yonhap News, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said on the 1st that South Korea-China relations should go beyond superficial restoration and return to a path of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

The report stated that Lee Jae-myung attended the second stage meeting of the 32nd APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting at the Gyeongju and Baekje Convention Center on that day. After the meeting, during a press conference, he answered the question from Chinese media about how to look forward to South Korea-China relations as above.

Lee Jae-myung said, "From the surface, there are no obvious problems in South Korea-China relations, but in fact, it has not yet fully recovered. He emphasized that both countries need to promote the substantive restoration of relations and further deepen cooperation. I will engage in dialogue with the Chinese side based on this idea, focusing on the economic field."

Lee Jae-myung pointed out that there is competition between South Korea and China in many fields, but they continue to establish cooperative relationships. The relationship between countries is inherently complex, with coexistence of cooperation, competition, and confrontation. The United States and China appear to be a competitive and conflicting adversarial relationship, but at the same time, they cooperate and conduct transactions in certain areas, supporting each other. The same applies to South Korea-China relations. The two countries are geographically close, and economically, they are interdependent and cooperative.

Lee Jae-myung said that in multiple fields where the two countries can achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes, especially in economic, civilian exchanges, and maintaining peace and stability in Northeast Asia, South Korea will create opportunities for cooperation and communication with China. In achieving peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, the role of China is crucial. Only when the Korean Peninsula is stable can Northeast Asia achieve stability, which is in China's interest. We expect China to play a greater role.
