Korean media: Competing with Ferrari and Porsche, BYD enters the European luxury car market!

On September 3, the Korean media "Chosun Ilbo" published an article stating that BYD, China's largest electric vehicle company, has surpassed American Tesla to become the world's largest electric vehicle company, and is now entering the European market, known as the homeland of luxury cars, with its top brands such as "仰望" (Yangwang).

It is reported that BYD plans to launch its premium brand Denza and its top supercar brand "Yangwang" in Europe next year.

Li Ke, vice president of BYD globally, said that after Denza launches in Europe next year, "we plan to introduce Yangwang to Europe."

Li Ke also said that the large sports utility vehicle (SUV) U8 and electric supercar U9, launched in 2023, as well as the flagship sedan U7 launched this year, "will be available in Europe, and more vehicles will be launched."

If BYD launches these brands in Europe next year, it will become the first Chinese automaker to enter the European high-end luxury car market.

Chinese automakers, including BYD, have long focused on selling low-cost models in overseas markets, including Europe. However, it seems they are now also targeting the premium brand market.

BYD previously launched U8 and U9 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK last year, but had not yet confirmed plans for a European launch.

The British car magazine "Autocar" explained that "Yangwang" is a premium brand competing with brands such as Bentley, Porsche, and Ferrari, while "Denza" mainly competes with Audi.

In the Chinese market, the starting price of U9 is 1.68 million yuan, U8 starts at 1.098 million yuan, and the newly launched U7 also starts at 628,000 yuan.
