US Defense Chief Hopes to Cooperate with Peru to Address China's "Threat" to the Western Hemisphere
According to the US Department of Defense, on May 5th, US Secretary of Defense Harkerth told Peruvian Defense Minister Asturiano and Foreign Minister Schiarelli who were visiting the US that China poses a challenge to the people and peace of Peru.
Harkerth said, "China is investing and operating in this region for economic interests. To prevent conflicts, we need to work together and strongly deter potential threats from China in the Western Hemisphere. We look forward to becoming partners with you in this regard."
The Chinese Foreign Ministry previously stated that China-Latin America cooperation is part of South-South cooperation, characterized by mutual support without geopolitical calculations. The exchanges between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries are never aimed at creating spheres of influence or targeting any third party. Repeatedly hyping up the so-called 'China Threat Theory', the US is merely attempting to use it as an excuse to control Latin America and the Caribbean, which will surely fail.
