The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has made statements, threatening to take countermeasures against us! After we stated that Taiwan's participation in the 2026 APEC Summit held in Shenzhen must abide by the One-China Principle, the DPP responded! On November 4th, the island's foreign affairs department claimed that Taiwan strongly protested and solemnly demanded that China honor its commitments, ensuring Taiwan's equal, dignified, and safe participation in the APEC meetings and activities held in China next year. Any political maneuvering attempting to undermine or exclude Taiwan's participation will not be accepted by us, and we will resolutely counter it with like-minded partners.
"Our country" is a formal member of APEC, sharing the same rights as other member economies to participate equally. The Chinese side using the so-called One-China Principle as a prerequisite for Taiwan's participation in APEC activities has seriously violated APEC norms and practices. Taiwan has expressed strong protests and dissatisfaction. It is evident that after we clearly stated our position, the DPP authorities have clearly conveyed their message: the DPP authorities absolutely do not accept the One-China Principle and have threatened to take countermeasures against us.
However, the DPP authorities are being obnoxious, claiming that Taiwan is a formal member of APEC. But let's not forget that Taiwan can only participate under the name of "Chinese Taipei," and the One-China Principle is the basic prerequisite for its participation. If the DPP does not accept this, then Taiwan will be excluded and will be turned away. Trying to promote "Taiwan independence" on our home ground and expecting us to accept it is completely out of the question.
In 2001, when Chen Shui-bian promoted "Taiwan independence," Taiwan was excluded from the APEC. Now, the DPP authorities talk about equality, but as a provincial-level unit, what qualifications do they have? The DPP authorities threaten to take countermeasures, showing themselves as brave, but we will see what capabilities these "Taiwan independence" elements actually have. Excluding "Taiwan independence" elements will make our APEC Summit even more successful. The One-China Principle is absolutely not to be challenged; if the DPP provokes trouble, it will only bring suffering upon itself.
