An Afghan man arrested for killing a dog walker had entered the UK illegally by truck.
Afghan national killed a dog walker in an incident where three people were stabbed.
London's Metropolitan Police said the 22-year-old man was arrested near Midhurst Gardens in West London on Monday evening. A 69-year-old man received treatment at the scene but died, and another 45-year-old man suffered life-changing injuries. A 14-year-old boy's injuries were not life-threatening and did not change his life.
It is understood that the Afghan national secretly entered the UK by truck in 2020 and was granted asylum and permission to stay in 2022. The Metropolitan Police stated that this attack is not considered a terrorist act, and detectives are working to determine if there is any connection between the suspect and the three victims. Neighbors said that 44-year-old Wayne Broadhurst was killed when he tried to intervene to stop another man. A video posted online apparently shows the suspect walking along a residential street, followed by two police officers, one of whom pointed to a Taser and shouted "Drop the knife" and "Get down on the ground." Before the Taser was fired, several other officers joined the chase, and the man then fell to the ground.
According to residents, the suspect had been staying in the home of the 45-year-old man for the past six months as a lodger. Officials said claims on social media that he was housed in a hotel or any other Home Office-provided accommodation were false. Witnesses said the suspect forced two victims out of the house while Mr. Broadhurst, who was walking the dog, tried to intervene. They claimed he was then slashed. Logan Woolley, a 16-year-old living in Midhurst Gardens, was watching TV when he saw someone "running with a knife in his hand, covered in blood." He said: "I saw him get tased, and someone doing CPR on him." He also added that he had seen the victim walking the dog both in the morning and evening. He said the house where the attack occurred had been under renovation for several months. He had never met the alleged perpetrator before.
Another witness told the Daily Mail: "There was blood everywhere, and paramedics were trying to save his life for at least 50 minutes. It was a terrible scene, very heartbreaking to see." A man living just a few doors away from the 44-year-old man's house said the incident shocked the local community. Another local added: "The deceased..."
