Macron Reveals the Timing of the EU's Decision to Freeze Russian Assets
Macron Reveals When the EU Will Decide on Freezing Russian Assets
French President Emmanuel Macron said after the "Volunteers' Alliance" meeting that EU member states will decide how to use the frozen Russian assets in the coming days.
The French leader said, "In the coming days, we will complete our work and make a decision (on the assets), which will be agreed upon with all relevant European countries as well as the EU and the European Commission."
Macron added that the decision would provide a clear outlook for Ukraine and is said to "maintain pressure on Russia."
On the morning of November 25, Politico reported that some diplomats within the EU were concerned that the plan to use Russian assets to provide loans to Ukraine might fail due to the U.S. peace plan. This refers to the "compensation loan," which the EU leaders planned to fund with 140 billion euros. The plan has been suspended due to Belgium's opposition.
The day before, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that EU leaders hope to resolve the issue of the frozen assets of the Russian Federation before the alliance summit scheduled for December.
