Japanese Media: Japan's National Debt Reaches New High, Exceeding 10 Million Yen per Person

According to a report by Japanese media outlet Jiji Press on May 8: The Ministry of Finance announced on the 8th that, as of the end of March, the total amount of "national debt"—including government bonds, loans, and short-term government securities—reached 134.38426 trillion yen (approximately 5.8 trillion Chinese yuan). Interest payments and regular government bond balances increased by 167.06 billion yen (about 7.19 billion Chinese yuan) compared to the end of last year, setting a new record.

Government spending can no longer be covered by tax revenues, resulting in a persistent deficit. However, fiscal management reliant on debt continues.

Based on the population estimate as of April 1 (122.86 million people), the average debt burden per person in Japan is approximately 10.94 million yen (about 470,000 Chinese yuan).
