According to the Sudan News Agency, on May 6 local time, Sudan announced the UAE as an enemy state, cut off diplomatic relations with the UAE, and closed the Sudanese embassy and consulate in Abu Dhabi, recalling its diplomatic personnel.

According to earlier reports from the United Nations website, on May 5, the International Court of Justice dismissed Sudan's case accusing the UAE of conspiring in the genocide of Darfur due to lack of jurisdiction.

In this decision, the UN's highest judicial body located in The Hague ruled by a vote of 14 to 2 that it cannot formally hear Sudan's lawsuit filed under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and rejected Sudan's request to issue any provisional measures.

The International Court of Justice also voted 9 to 7 to remove the case from the general list of cases.

The judgment clearly stated: "In view of the Court's clear determination of lack of jurisdiction, no decision can be made regarding the substance of Sudan's claims."

Sudan accused the UAE of supporting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, stating that such support constituted complicity in the genocide against the non-Arab Masalit people in West Darfur.

The conflict between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese government forces has resulted in thousands of deaths and displaced more than 12.7 million people. This humanitarian crisis has continued to escalate since April 2023.

In its ruling, the International Court of Justice emphasized in particular that although the court lacks jurisdiction over this case, all contracting parties must still strictly comply with their obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
