Foreign media: A new study published in the journal Science overturns traditional beliefs, revealing that genetic factors influence lifespan by as much as 55%, far exceeding the previously estimated range of 10%-25%.
Researchers from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel arrived at this conclusion by analyzing data spanning more than a century, after eliminating external causes of death such as violence and accidents.
Although the role of genes has been underestimated, experts still emphasize the importance of lifestyle: Yale research found that a positive mindset can reduce the risk of dementia; a study published in The Lancet showed that adding just five more minutes of daily exercise can extend life by one year; and maintaining five healthy habits starting at age 50 (not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, regular physical activity, balanced diet, and moderate alcohol consumption) can add 14 years to women's lives and 12 years to men's.
