Imports and exports between China and Kazakhstan are growing in both directions, with an increasing proportion of high-tech equipment imports.
(Report by Kazakh International News Agency) At the second "Central Asia-China" Business Council meeting held in Astana, Raikimbek Batyrov, Chairman of the "Atamekan" Entrepreneurs Association of Kazakhstan, stated that in the first quarter of 2025, the total commodity trade volume between Kazakhstan and China and Central Asian countries reached 29.3 billion US dollars, with imports from China increasing by 18%.
Batyrov pointed out that the five Central Asian countries play a key role in building a new regional cooperation framework. Countries are collaborating around a common economic agenda, promoting transit corridors, developing export-oriented industries, and establishing joint production chains.
"Against this backdrop, China is not only a reliable trade and economic partner but also a key force driving technological progress, an important investment partner, and a strategic ally. In 2024, the commodity trade volume between Kazakhstan and China reached 43.82 billion US dollars, including 15.8 billion US dollars in exports from Kazakhstan and 28 billion US dollars in imports. These figures clearly demonstrate the structure and development trends of economic cooperation between the two countries," Batyrov said.
According to him, in the first quarter of 2025, the trade relations between Kazakhstan and China and Central Asian countries continued to show a good momentum, with a total trade volume reaching approximately 29.3 billion US dollars, especially with a significant increase in imports from China.
"In Kazakhstan's export structure, oil, copper, uranium, metallurgical products, and recently emerging agricultural products dominate. On the import side, there are encouraging changes - the proportion of high-tech equipment, computer technology, construction machinery, and components required for digital transformation continues to rise. All these signs indicate that Central Asian countries are gradually moving away from a raw materials-dominated development model toward a modern growth path based on deep cooperation," he added.
It is worth noting that the second "Central Asia-China" summit was held on the same day in the capital of Kazakhstan, with the heads of state of the five Central Asian countries and the President of China attending the meeting. The first summit was held on May 19, 2023, in Xi'an, China. At the end of the meeting, the leaders signed the "Xi'an Declaration" and adopted a series of cooperation initiatives.
