Foreign media: The U.S. Department of Defense has added biotechnology company WuXi AppTec to its list of companies with military ties, a move that could jeopardize the company's development prospects and bring complex implications for research work at U.S. pharmaceutical firms.
As a major outsourcing service provider for global pharmaceutical giants, WuXi AppTec offers services including drug discovery and commercial-scale production. By 2024, the company had produced the majority of the active pharmaceutical ingredients for Eli Lilly’s weight-loss drug Zepbound.
Being placed on the list means WuXi AppTec may face stricter scrutiny and restrictions. However, since the list itself does not directly impose sanctions, the actual impact remains to be seen.
