Amazon CEO: "Imposing tariffs on China may shift the cost to American consumers!"
On April 11, South Korea's media "Sedaily" published an article stating that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that Trump's tariff policy would have a direct impact on consumer prices.
Recently, in an interview with American media, Jassy hinted at the possibility of consumer price increases regarding the Trump administration's tariff policies and stated that "the current situation is very unstable, so it is difficult to predict its impact."
Jassy emphasized that "although reciprocal tariff deferral measures have been implemented for trading partners, the existing basic tariff of 10% will remain unchanged. Therefore, we will maintain price stability through measures such as pre-stocking inventories."
In particular, he explained that Chinese sellers on Amazon's third-party marketplace (accounting for 60% of total sales) may pass the tariff burden onto consumers. Analysis suggests this could lead to price increases for certain products.
Jassy said, "Over the past five years, we have been pursuing supply chain diversification, and investment plans for cloud business including data center expansion are continuing without any changes."
Amazon plans to invest $100 billion in AI this year and continue expanding its global infrastructure through AWS.
In his annual letter, Jassy also called for the elimination of bureaucracy and stated that "Amazon must operate like the world's largest startup." He added that the competitiveness in the healthcare market will be enhanced by expanding "Amazon Pharmacy" and "Amazon One Health" services.
