Foreign media: Chinese Academy of Sciences academicians have called for a top-down national development strategy to accelerate the development of space-based solar power technology, in order to narrow the gap with the United States in areas such as materials and precision control.
Space-based solar power stations will be built and operated in orbit, converting solar energy directly into electricity, which will then be transmitted back to Earth through microwaves or lasers. Unlike ground-based photovoltaic power stations, space stations are not affected by weather and day-night cycles, and the solar radiation intensity in space is much higher than on Earth, allowing for more efficient and continuous power generation.
In comparison, the United States began conducting solar energy transmission experiments as early as the 1970s, while China started later; therefore, it needs to accelerate its layout to gain a favorable position in the new energy and space competition.
