Regarding recent public attacks by Li Zhengxiu, a mainland Chinese spouse, against people such as the chairperson of the People's Party, Huang Guochang, former party chair Ko Wen-je stated that having one seat in the Legislative Yuan reserved for new immigrants to voice their concerns is correct. However, individual performance within the Legislative Yuan should be evaluated separately, and personal conduct must be subject to public scrutiny.
Ko Wen-je pointed out that the issue involving Li Zhengxiu arose due to numerous calls received at the office, along with over a hundred named complaints filed by party members. Subsequently, the matter was referred to the People's Party Central Review Committee (CRC), an independent body. He emphasized the need to respect its independent operation and declined to elaborate further on this aspect.
When asked about Li Zhengxiu’s desire to ensure that no matter what happens, she hopes Ko Wen-je will not be implicated, Ko Wen-je responded: "Too many words often lead to mistakes." He added that initially, everyone tried to help her, but it was ultimately her own actions that led to the current situation. Therefore, he reiterated his advice: speak carefully and thoughtfully. Sometimes, saying the wrong thing and then hastily trying to correct it without proper preparation only makes matters worse and becomes uncontrollable.
When questioned by the media whether Li Zhengxiu claimed she was expelled from the party under Huang Guochang’s direction, Ko Wen-je replied that the People's Party still has established procedures. He urged her not to call Chen Zhihan a "toady," noting that Chen is actually very dedicated, as is Zhou Yuxiu, and Xu Fu treats others politely. He asked rhetorically: "How could calling someone a 'toady' possibly be a positive move? The more you speak ill of others, the worse things get. Speaking negatively about others won’t improve yourself—I’d rather say: calm down, calm down, calm down."
