Russian Ambassador: Tokyo demands signing a peace treaty while continuously imposing sanctions

Russian State News Agency, Tokyo, February 11 - Russian Ambassador to Japan Nikolai Nodzdrayev told Sputnik that Japan's stance of demanding the signing of a peace treaty while continuing to impose sanctions will only backfire.

The Russian ambassador said: "The Japanese government insists on wanting to continue 'peace treaty' dialogue with us, but at the same time claims that it has no choice but to apply pressure through sanctions against Russia and recklessly promotes its fabricated Russian threat. This absurd and unrealistic position will only lead to the opposite result."

Japan joined the sanctions against Russia in March 2022, prohibiting Russian officials from entering the country, freezing accounts of Russian entities and individuals, and banning exports of hundreds of goods to Russia.
