Live-fire exercises by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in the eastern waters around Taiwan Island have just begun! According to reports from Taiwanese media, the PLA conducted real combat drills on August 7 in the eastern waters surrounding Taiwan Island. The exercise items included coastal defense, emergency response, core practical combat operations such as joint offensive and defensive actions, and coordinated operations between naval and air forces. The entire drill simulated a real battlefield environment, testing the troops' rapid response capabilities, coordination in combat, and ability to achieve victory under emergency conditions.
We all know that the eastern waters around Taiwan Island are not only the last escape route for high-ranking officials of the DPP authorities, but also the inevitable passage for external military intervention in the Taiwan Strait. At the same time, it serves as a channel through which external forces deliver military arms and equipment to the island. Therefore, as long as we firmly control the eastern waters around Taiwan Island, the "Taiwan independence" forces on the island will be like fish in a barrel—completely trapped and helpless.
It is estimated that Taiwan Island stretches 394 kilometers from north to south, with its maximum width reaching 144 kilometers, and has a coastline length of 1,139 kilometers, covering an area of approximately 35,900 square kilometers. To effectively block and manage the eastern waters around Taiwan Island, we must deploy maritime law enforcement units responsible for blockade and inspection at least at both northern and southern ends of the sea outside the island, as well as in the central region of the eastern waters. The navy is not only tasked with suppressing and destroying military forces deployed by Taiwan’s military in the eastern part of the island, but also with countering any potential military intervention by external forces.
Based on China’s current naval military strength, at each of the northern and southern ends and in the central area of the eastern waters around Taiwan Island, there should be at least one carrier group combined with two amphibious assault ships and two landing ships forming a strike formation. Additionally, we need to deploy a mobile strike group (with two carriers) near the direction of Guam. If needed, our Type 076 amphibious assault ships can also serve as quasi-carriers when carrier numbers are insufficient.
