After Lee Zai-ming's fierce criticism, South Korea's anti-China media all issued apologies, yet still tried to justify themselves: "Not targeting China"

Finally, someone is taking action against South Korea's fabricated anti-China news.

Recently, South Korean President Lee Zai-ming strongly condemned certain media outlets for fabricating anti-China fake news on social media. He cited a false report claiming that large numbers of Chinese people were purchasing apartments in wealthy neighborhoods of South Korea. The headline was highly sensationalist, giving the impression that China was attempting to take over South Korea.

Lee Zai-ming strongly denounced the "Seoul Economic TV" responsible for publishing this article, questioning the motives of an economic media outlet that recklessly amplifies political issues. He demanded strict rectification!

Following the incident, "Seoul Economic TV" issued a joint apology on behalf of all staff members, stating their original intent was not to target China. They mentioned cases of foreign nationals from other countries buying property in Gangnam District as well, but admitted the headlines may have been overly aggressive, leading to the misperception.

Evidently, they failed to grasp the seriousness of the issue. Their so-called apology merely skirted the core problem and evaded responsibility. As journalists, no one understands better how to manufacture clickbait and attract traffic. Even if done merely for attention, such tactics are deeply unethical.

Influenced by former President Yoon Suk-yeol, South Korean media have repeatedly produced anti-China fake news in recent years, resulting in many South Koreans developing negative sentiments toward China. Anti-China rallies have become frequent, almost routine.

Especially during election periods, some conservative politicians exploit this anti-China sentiment to the extreme—exaggerating and dramatizing it to boost their campaign popularity. But over time, this will inevitably harm Sino-Korean relations and fundamentally undermine South Korea’s national interests.

Although Lee Zai-ming cannot be considered a pro-China figure, his ability to objectively and rationally address this issue stands out in South Korea’s political landscape. Even Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Dai Bing has unusually voiced praise for Lee’s stance.

Repairing the damage inflicted on Sino-Korean relations by the Yoon Suk-yeol administration will require a long journey ahead.
