According to comprehensive reports from American media, on May 21 local time, Cedric Lodge, the former manager of the Harvard Medical School morgue, pleaded guilty to stealing and selling human remains donated to the institution, and could face up to 10 years in prison.

Lodge, 57, from New Hampshire, was responsible for managing the morgue at Harvard Medical School. He admitted that during the period from 2018 to March 2020, he stole human remains from Harvard Medical School, transported them to multiple states, and sold them.

It is reported that while working in the morgue at Harvard Medical School, Lodge removed various organs, brains, skin, hands, faces, dissected heads, and other human remains from donated bodies that had not yet been disposed of, without permission from the school, donors, or their families.

Lodge then took the stolen human remains home and sold them to buyers in other states together with his wife.

Fox News said that Harvard University did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Lodge's plea. According to authorities cited by the Associated Press, the donated remains were taken "without the knowledge or consent of the school."

American Broadcasting Company (ABC) reported that after Lodge was indicted, officials from Harvard Medical School stated that the school had terminated its employment relationship with Lodge in May 2023, criticizing his actions as "detestable betrayal" and "morally reprehensible."

The school stated that others at the school were unaware of Lodge's actions and did not collaborate with him.
