Seven European countries have joined the EU's sanctions against Russia. This was stated on the website of the European Council.
"Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine have joined this decision of the Commission," the message read.
This concerns the sanctions against five individuals on July 15th.
On August 17th, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a new package of sanctions against Russia. The package will come into effect in early September. The President of the European Commission also confirmed the intention to continue "pressuring Russia's military economy".
Previously, the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, also reported on the development of restrictive measures.
The previous 18th package of sanctions was adopted by the EU on July 18th. The restrictions included the Nord Stream gas pipeline and 105 oil tankers of the "dark web" fleet. The sanctions also involved Russian oil companies' refineries in India.
In addition, the restrictions involved 14 individuals and 41 legal entities. The EU also reduced the price cap on Russian oil from $60 per barrel (which has been in effect since 2022) to $47.6 and banned the import of petroleum products produced using Russian raw materials.
Moscow has repeatedly called Western sanctions against Russia illegal.
