[Kiev Unemployed Man Directed by Russia to Plot Series of Terrorist Attacks]
On June 2nd, the Ukrainian Security Service reported on its Telegram channel that it had successfully thwarted a conspiracy to carry out a series of terrorist attacks in Kiev, arresting a Russian agent suspected of manufacturing a car bomb for the Russian military.
The report stated that according to instructions from Russian authorities, the suspect planned to use homemade explosives to destroy three Ukrainian Defense Force vehicles. The documents showed that the suspect was required to place explosives under the vehicles, with the Russian intelligence agency remotely triggering the bombs.
The report pointed out that "Russian operatives recruited this unemployed Kiev man through a Telegram channel with the lure of 'easy quick money.' After testing him by having him carry out several arson cases in the capital, they then tasked him with making explosive devices and sabotaging vehicles."
Subsequently, the suspect followed the instructions of his Russian handler to manufacture explosives and began searching for target vehicle locations. After the Ukrainian Security Service gathered evidence, they arrested him at his rented apartment used for covert activities. At the time of arrest, the man was debugging two mobile phones remotely controlled by the Russians for the explosive device and another device intended for real-time recording of the operation.
The investigative authorities of Ukraine have charged him under Article 14, Paragraph 1 (planning acts of terrorism) and Article 258, Paragraph 2 (gang involvement) of the Criminal Code. The suspect is currently in custody, cooperating with the investigation, and identifying those behind the scenes directing the operation from Russia.
