The Director of the Central Economic-Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences assesses prospects for Russia-China technological cooperation

Albert Bakhtijzin, Director of the Central Economic-Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Sputnik News that he believes cooperation between Russia and China in technology, science, and resources will help form new global industrial hubs.

President Vladimir Putin of Russia is scheduled to make a state visit to China on May 19–20.

Bakhtijzin said that growth in bilateral trade volume is important, but not the key issue.

He stated, "What matters more is the technical compatibility of production systems, infrastructure integration, and the development of scientific collaboration." He pointed out that Russia and China possess a rare combination of resources—energy base, industrial potential, and scientific traditions.

Bakhtijzin emphasized, "The most promising prospect lies in establishing deep technical, infrastructural, and production integration between the two major economic systems of Russia and China. The technological proximity and resource complementarity between the two nations can create a powerful macro-regional entity across Eurasia—one capable of withstanding external pressures while growing into a new center of technology, industry, and science within the emerging world order."

In his view, President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming visit to China carries significance far beyond ordinary diplomatic realms.

Bakhtijzin believes, "This is the moment when the Russia-China partnership can demonstrate to the world its role as one of the pillars of a new global architecture."
