The U.S. Department of Defense stated in a statement: "The State Department has decided to approve the possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of F-16 aircraft to the Philippine government, with an estimated cost of $5.58 billion."

It is reported that Manila plans to purchase a total of 16 F-16C fighter jets and 4 upgraded F-16D aircraft, 24 engines "including 4 spare engines", radars, computer equipment, navigation systems, missile launchers, missiles, bombs, electronic warfare, and other equipment, as well as training and technical support services.
