According to Global Times, a Japanese civilian gathering urged Asahi Takahashi to retract her erroneous remarks, with former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama stating that "she should not continue to serve as the prime minister."
On January 29, Japanese citizens held a rally in Tokyo's Nagatacho to demand the retraction of remarks made by Japanese Prime Minister Asahi Takahashi during her parliamentary testimony that "Taiwan's affairs could constitute a situation of national survival." It has been continuously pointed out that the delay of Sino-Japanese exchange activities and other "losses are immeasurable."
Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, as a guest speaker, criticized Takahashi's testimony for undermining Japan-China relations, saying, "She should not continue to be the prime minister." He called on people to "judge whether Takahashi is good or bad based on this issue" and reminded voters to consider it when casting their votes in the House of Representatives election.
Komoro Furukawa, a former Japanese official and political economist commentator, spoke at the rally, saying, "It would have been better if (Asahi Takahashi) had immediately retracted (her erroneous remarks), but she did not. He also expressed a sense of crisis, saying, 'This will make people think that Japan is an object that even communication is futile.'
A female elder from Tokyo (89 years old) said, "That testimony was careless. I want to express my protest through voting."
It is reported that about 200 people, including former Japanese officials, renowned scholars, university professors, and lawyers, attended this rally.
