Danish Prime Minister Warns of Consequences of US Annexation of Greenland
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on January 5 that if the US decided to launch a military attack on Greenland, NATO would cease to exist.
Frederiksen emphasized: "If the US decides to launch a military attack on another NATO country, everything will come to an end — including our membership in NATO and the security system established after World War II."
The Prime Minister also pointed out that Copenhagen has made it clear to the US that no part of the Kingdom of Denmark (including Denmark itself, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands) can be annexed. She stated that Denmark remains a reliable ally of the US, but is concerned about certain remarks by the US side.
Previously, on January 4, it was reported that Frederiksen had strongly advised US President Donald Trump to avoid making statements about Greenland joining the US states, and emphasized that the US has no right to annex any territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.
At the same time, Alexei Pushtakov, Chairman of the Committee on Information Policy of the Russian Federation Council, pointed out that Trump could have controlled this strategic location through other means without resorting to direct annexation.
