Russian Expert: US-China Confrontation Enters Decisive Stage

Vasily Kashin, director of the Center for Comprehensive Research on Europe and International Issues at the National Research University of Higher School of Economics, stated at a roundtable meeting held in Moscow that the confrontation between the US and China has entered a decisive stage, and the US and its allies may take escalatory measures in the near future.

"The US understands that the conflict with China is entering a critical phase, and rapid action must be taken," Kashin said. "The US and its closest allies, such as Japan, believe that the basic situation in the Asia-Pacific region will undergo significant changes in the coming years, especially in terms of military and economic security, which will be disadvantageous to them. The US, Japan, the Taiwan region, and other members of the US alliance system must quickly escalate their confrontation with China because if intense confrontation occurs later, it will be even more disadvantageous for the US."

He further stated: "The US is paying attention to the modernization and rapid growth of China's nuclear forces. By the end of this decade, China may become the third nuclear superpower, with the number of nuclear warheads capable of striking the US mainland potentially exceeding one thousand. This fact will change many things. The US' ability to intervene in regional conflicts involving China will significantly decrease."

He concluded: "The second factor is the overall modernization of the Chinese army. China aims to possess sufficient military capabilities to achieve dominance in any escalation of situations in Asia by 2027."
