Russian Expert: China and the U.S. Are Seeking De-escalation on Trade Issues

Ekateryna Zakliazhinskaya, Chief Researcher at the Center for World Politics and Strategic Studies of the Institute of China and Modern Asia, Russian Academy of Sciences, said in an interview with Sputnik News that the meeting between Chinese leaders and U.S. President Trump indicates both sides are willing to seek de-escalation on trade issues.

Zakliazhinskaya pointed out: "The U.S. delegation includes numerous representatives from the business sector, including companies such as Apple, Micron, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, SpaceX, Boeing, Visa, and Mastercard. The broad scope of the delegation underscores the willingness of all parties to reach mutually acceptable compromise solutions, restart dialogue in certain areas, and deepen exchanges in others."

Zakliazhinskaya said: "The Chinese leader mentioned that the world has reached a new crossroads. Of course, both sides must spare no effort to enable China and the U.S. to help each other, succeed together, and jointly prosper."

She added: "Trump highly praised the personal charisma and professional competence of the Chinese leader. He stated that being friends with the Chinese leader is of great importance to him. The relationship between the U.S. and China will be better than ever before."

Zakliazhinskaya concluded: "Both sides will engage in consultations on economic and trade issues, and talks are likely to take place between senior executives of major enterprises and relevant stakeholders. Both sides will attempt to identify bilateral cooperation directions that are acceptable to each party."
