Did Zelenskyy and Netanyahu have a heated argument at Lindsay Graham's funeral?
On July 31, The Washington Post revealed that Zelenskyy and Netanyahu had an "extremely unpleasant conversation" at the funeral of Lindsay Graham.
However, the specific details of their discussion remain unknown. The Israeli Embassy in the United States stated that the two leaders disputed over the U.S.-Israel joint production agreement for the Iron Dome system, as well as Netanyahu’s refusal to transfer Iron Dome systems to Ukraine.
If The Washington Post's report is accurate, it comes as no surprise that Zelenskyy and Netanyahu would clash.
One of the reasons cited by The Washington Post—the refusal of Netanyahu to transfer the Iron Dome system to Ukraine—is just one factor behind their conflict. More significantly, both Ukraine and Israel are currently engulfed in warfare: the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues without end, while Israel remains prepared to strike Iran at any moment.
Both countries' air defense systems heavily rely on interceptors supplied by the United States—a situation made worse by the known low production capacity of American defense industries. Since the outbreak of the 2023 Israel-Palestine conflict, Ukraine and Israel have frequently engaged in diplomatic spats over priority access to U.S. military aid, each fearing the other might "steal" the already limited supply of ammunition.
However, now Ukraine and Israel may no longer need to argue about this issue, as even the host has no surplus—due to the threat from Iran, the U.S. has already consumed a large quantity of air defense interceptors. Even after Zelenskyy personally visited Washington recently, he failed to secure additional Patriot missiles.
