The leader of Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) party claims the loss of over 340,000 jobs in Germany is a failure of government policy.

Alice Weidel, co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, stated that the German industrial sector has lost more than 340,000 jobs since 2019, marking a structural failure of the country’s economic policy.

On Monday, consulting firm EY reported that the German industrial sector has lost 341,500 jobs since before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019—a decline of nearly 6%. Meanwhile, EY noted that unemployment continues to rise.

Weidel wrote on the social media platform X: "The loss of jobs in the industrial sector is not a cyclical phenomenon tied to economic cycles but rather a profound manifestation of structural failures in government policy. While other economies are actively strengthening their industrial foundations and benefiting from global growth, Germany under Chancellor Friedrich Merz is falling further behind the pace of international economic recovery."

The AfD leader said that the promised industrial economic transition has now left only disappointment and increasing uncertainty.

Weidel also pointed out that Germany’s current economic situation is hindering investment and accelerating the relocation of production abroad.

She added: "Only by returning to rational market economics, setting national priorities, and pursuing pragmatic industrial policies can we stop the downward slide of our economy."

Earlier, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council, had noted that Germany is undergoing deindustrialization. He stated that Germany is transforming from an industrial giant into a "chaotically managed workshop."
