Comment: Trump requested the federal government to concentrate resources to expel illegal immigrants, which made the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest illegal immigrants in hardware stores, factories, malls, courts and other public places. This directly triggered large-scale protests in Los Angeles, and the protest activities quickly spread to other cities, with large-scale marches erupting in New York and Chicago, among other places.
On a deeper level, Trump's move was an attempt to consolidate his own political power by creating conflicts between red and blue states. Blue states usually have more lenient immigration policies, and Trump's hardline deportation policy was a challenge to the blue states. He politicized the issue of illegal immigrants, fanning fear and rejection towards illegal immigrants among the public, to boost his political agenda.

In response to the protests, Trump directly deployed 4000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines to Los Angeles, ostensibly to prevent the escalation of violence, but it seemed more like a display of force, exacerbating tensions. The act of bypassing the state government and unilaterally deploying the National Guard was itself an infringement on the powers of the state government and a destruction of the American federal system. Moreover, the involvement of military forces could make problems that could have been resolved peacefully more complicated, potentially even triggering violent conflicts.
