San Diego Comic-Con Off-Exhibition Interactive Experience and New Trailer for "Avatar" Released
Reported by Maggie Ma in San Diego
Although this year's San Diego Comic-Con lacked star power, many major films scheduled to be released at the end of the year still released new trailers during the weekend of the convention. For example, the highly anticipated "Avatar 3: Fire and Ash" released a new trailer, while another science fiction blockbuster, "Frankenstein," released new behind-the-scenes photos. "Predator: Badlands" and "Peacemaker" set up separate fan interactive experiences outside the exhibition halls, showcasing props and sets from the films.
The much-anticipated "Avatar 3: Fire and Ash" will be released in the Christmas holiday period this December. Although Disney did not bring actors to the convention's showcase, the first trailer was finally shown as a pre-feature with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps." "Avatar 3: Fire and Ash" will continue to be released in 3D format. The trailer showcased the dreamlike planet Pandora and introduced two new Na'vi tribes, which will engage in intense conflict due to historical grievances, fighting on land, sea, and air. The trailer also features grand battle scenes and massive alien spacecraft designs.
"Avatar: Fire and Ash" is directed by James Cameron, starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, and will tell the story of the disasters brought by revenge and war, releasing in North America on December 19th. The first and second "Avatar" movies are still ranked first and third on the global box office charts. Whether the third film can create another box office miracle remains to be seen. In particular, the current global box office champion is the Chinese domestic film "Ne Zha 2" released during the Chinese New Year. Hollywood's summer blockbusters have already been released, but both "Superman" and "The Fantastic Four" have encountered cold reception in Asia, and it is expected that none will ultimately surpass "Ne Zha 2" in total global box office. "Avatar 3" will be the only one that could potentially exceed "Ne Zha 2." If even this one fails, "Ne Zha 2" will become the first Chinese film to win the annual global box office champion.
On November 7th, Disney will release the sci-fi horror film "Predator: Badlands," originally under 20th Century Fox. This film also set up an interactive experience hall outside the exhibition hall during this comic convention. Although the space is not large, it showcases various "Predator" costumes, props, and weapons from the "Predator" series, attracting many fans to come and view. Entering the hall, you will see various aliens and dinosaur models, instantly entering the world of the film. This film is the seventh installment of the "Predator" series. Actress Elle Fanning will play a cyborg character in the film, whose role model also appears in this interactive experience hall, made very realistically, identical to the actor, and can move and suddenly "speak," providing a "thrilling experience" for the fans who came.
The DC Comics spin-off series "Peacemaker" Season 2 will return to HBO MAX on August 21st, and during this comic convention, an experience hall was also set up outside the exhibition hall, showcasing many sets, props, and costumes from the show, especially multiple "Peacemaker" helmets, which have intrigued fans. "Peacemaker" is a spin-off of the film "The Suicide Squad" directed by James Gunn, focusing on the adventures of the funny and rude "Peacemaker" from the X-Force team. "Peacemaker" is played by retired wrestler and comedian John Cena, and this character also appears in James Gunn's recently released "Superman" film as a "cameo" role. Gunn and Cena attended the H Hall fan meeting at this comic convention and confirmed that "Peacemaker" and Superman are in the same universe. Originally, "Peacemaker" looked down on Superman and had some grudges, but later his impression of Superman changed significantly, possibly becoming an ally. In the second season of "Peacemaker," viewers will see more links between him and Superman, and interactions between the two characters in future films are imminent.
The fantasy film director Guillermo del Toro has created a new version of "Frankenstein" for Netflix, which also revealed new stills during the comic convention! However, this film has been selected for the main competition section of the 82nd Venice Film Festival, so it was not promoted at the comic convention, but instead aimed to compete in the Venice Film Festival and the subsequent Oscar awards season. The newly released stills feature Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi as the scientific monster, and Mia Goth as Elizabeth, with the costumes and visual colors showing a painterly quality, and the set design is very detailed. This film will be released in cinemas and on Netflix in November.
