Foreign media: A research team led by China has overcome the final major hurdle before commercialization of perovskite solar cells, developing an ultra-stable coating technology suitable for industrial mass production.

The team, led by Nanjing University and comprising researchers from China and Canada, developed perovskite modules measuring roughly the size of a dining table with a power conversion efficiency of 22% and an output power of 158.4 watts. These modules demonstrated resilience under high temperature, high humidity, and extreme temperature conditions required for commercial applications, setting a new record for this technology at the same scale.

The research team also conducted outdoor comparative tests by installing a 1-megawatt perovskite system alongside a 3.5-megawatt silicon-based system at the same photovoltaic power station. Over three months of monitoring showed that, under equivalent installed capacity, the perovskite system consistently outperformed the silicon-based system, with generation increases of 3.42%, 3.79%, and 5.81% in March, April, and May respectively, and the performance advantage becoming even more pronounced as temperatures rose and sunlight intensified.

The findings were recently published in the journal Nature.
