Foreign Media: Chinese Refineries Increase Purchase of Russian Crude Oil, Taking Advantage of the US Tariff on India
After the United States imposed additional tariffs on Indian imports of Russian oil, Chinese refineries have intensified their procurement of Russia's flagship crude oil, Urals. Data shows that in August, China received about 75,000 barrels per day of Urals crude oil, nearly twice the annual average of 40,000 barrels; during the same period, India's imports fell below 400,000 barrels per day, far lower than the average of 1.18 million barrels.
Analysts say that Urals crude oil is more competitive compared to Middle Eastern oil. The Trump administration has doubled India's import tariffs, but has postponed additional taxes on China to maintain trade easing with Beijing, and said there has been progress with Putin in ending the war. It is expected that China has ordered 10 to 15 cargo ships (to be delivered in November), and at least two tankers each carrying 1 million barrels are currently moored in Zhoushan waters, and more cargo may arrive in the future.
