South Korean media: Surged by 47%, Global No.1, BYD delivers a perfect report card!

On May 19th, South Korean media "Everyday Economy" published an article stating that BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) company that has surpassed Tesla and become the world's largest EV company, saw a significant increase in sales from January to April this year.

BYD's cumulative sales during this period were approximately 1.38 million units, increasing by 46.98% compared to the same period last year.

In addition, the new energy vehicle sales reached 380,089 units last month (including 372,615 passenger vehicles), rising by about 21.34% year-over-year, setting a new record for monthly sales this year.

BYD's sales in January were approximately 300,000 units, 320,000 units in February, and 370,000 units in March. The possibility of BYD achieving its annual target of 5.5 million units has greatly increased.

Notably, last month's pure electric vehicle sales were 195,749 units, exceeding plug-in hybrid vehicle sales (176,875 units) for the first time since the beginning of 2024.

At the Shanghai Auto Show held last month, BYD unveiled luxury SUV and sports car concept cars, signaling its intention to enter the high-end market.

Meanwhile, Chinese EV companies have increased the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles to avoid tariffs on Chinese EVs in the EU market.

According to statistics from electric vehicle policy analysis firm LoMotion cited by Reuters, BYD and Chery sold 3,269 and 757 vehicles respectively in the EU market in March.
