Harvard Rejects Trump 'Task Force' Request: Stands by Independence and Rule of Law

Starting in March, Trump's "special task force" sent letters to colleges and universities, requesting the cancellation of "diversity, equity, inclusion" programs, "merit-based" hiring/admissions, teaching that reflects "varied ideas" (promoting more conservative values), prohibiting masks/face coverings, prohibiting anti-Semitism, reviewing the viewpoints of faculty and students... and so on.

In early April, Harvard received notice: if not complied with, federal funding would be cut off and contracts canceled (involving billions of dollars).

Today, Harvard announced: it will not comply because it is illegal; the government has no authority to interfere with the operation of universities. Harvard will not abandon its independence and legal rights.
