US launches investigation: Whether the import of critical minerals threatens national security

White House: The US will investigate whether the import of key minerals in remanufacturing will pose a threat to national security.

On April 16, U.S. President Trump ordered an investigation to determine if the import of key minerals including uranium in remanufacturing would pose a threat to national security. The White House released the relevant order.

The order stated: "Given the above risks and realities, it is necessary to conduct an investigation... to determine if the import of key remanufactured minerals and their derivatives poses a threat to national security."

The message pointed out that there will be an analysis of the distortion effects caused by the so-called "predatory economic, price, and market manipulation strategies and practices" implemented by countries exporting these resources to the United States.

The order said that the United States may impose tariffs to reduce the risk to national security and increase domestic production of these minerals.
