White House Statement of the United States: South Africa Listed as New Sanction Target Due to Accusations Against Israel

By virtue of the powers vested in me as President under the Constitution and laws of the United States, I hereby order as follows:

Section 1. Purpose

The Republic of South Africa (South Africa) has blatantly ignored the rights of its citizens and recently promulgated Bill No. 13 of 2024, the "2024 Expropriation Act," aimed at enabling the South African government to confiscate agricultural property belonging to the minority Afrikaner people without compensation.

This act comes after countless government policies aimed at dismantling equal opportunities in employment, education, and business. Meanwhile, hate speech and actions by the South African government have fueled excessive violence against landowners subjected to racial discrimination.

In addition, South Africa has taken an adversarial stance toward the United States and its allies, including accusing Israel rather than Hamas of genocide at the International Court and strengthening ties with Iran to develop commercial, military, and nuclear arrangements.
