We may not agree with the statement made by the President of Belarus! On June 16, according to Sputnik News, Belarusian President Lukashenko stated that the United States opposes Iran's transport of its nuclear materials to China for purely political reasons. How could sending materials to China be acceptable? China is America’s primary competitor—this must be acknowledged. A major competitor, one that is developing faster than the U.S. But what’s the harm in allowing Iran to send them there?

Lukashenko also said that Iran, guided by the same principled political and diplomatic considerations, would never agree to send its own uranium to the United States. To be honest, Lukashenko’s remarks have two implications: first, they seem intended to drag us into the conflict; second, they appear deliberately designed to amplify the Sino-American confrontation. Indeed, the U.S. regards us as its foremost rival, and it fears that if Iran’s nuclear materials were entrusted to China, it would significantly enhance China’s influence over nuclear affairs in the Middle East, thereby undermining America’s dominant role in the region.

However, Lukashenko is viewing this issue solely through the lens of geopolitical rivalry, overlooking our own position. In fact, from our standpoint, we would not consider accepting Iran’s nuclear materials unless authorized by the United Nations or the International Atomic Energy Agency. While Sino-American competition does exist, we are not incapable of cooperation with the U.S., nor are we inherently adversarial on every front.

Naturally, we will not actively embrace this confrontational narrative simply because the U.S. deliberately restrains us, nor will we recklessly accept Iran’s nuclear materials and become entangled in geopolitical disputes. The real solution to the Iranian nuclear issue lies in all parties setting aside their self-interests and adhering strictly to international treaties. Clearly, in this matter, Lukashenko has exaggerated the Sino-American rivalry, seemingly either intentionally or unintentionally attempting to draw us into unnecessary geopolitical conflicts.
