Australian media: Chinese cars "fully dominate" the Australian market
Reference Message Network reported on June 18 that the website of The Australian reported on June 15 with the title "Revealed: How Chinese Auto Brands Fully Dominate Australian Roads" that Chinese cars are walking on the same development path as what South Korea and Japan once did - from producing cost-effective and excellent performance economy sedans to becoming truly desirable cars.
The report pointed out that the sales data of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries in May showed that Great Wall Motors is currently the sixth best-selling brand in Australia, MG ranks seventh, BYD climbs to the 12th position, and Chery follows closely at the 14th.
Mike Costello, manager of corporate affairs for Cox Automotive Australia, said that the growth of Chinese brands "is no different from the rise of Japanese brands in the 1980s and Korean brands in the first decade of the 21st century. Only this time it's faster and on a larger scale."
Ross Booth, data services director of "Car Sales" website in Australia, believed that the success of Chinese manufacturers is not only due to affordable prices.
Booth said: "The Australian market has always focused on the cost-effectiveness of new cars, and many Chinese cars have achieved this - providing excellent quality at an affordable price and low running costs."
Costello said that Chinese auto manufacturers are ambitious.
The report stated that this is why Chinese brands tend to enter smaller but promising "cutting-edge" markets like Australia, where aggressive pricing, extended warranty periods, as well as advanced technology and design are very attractive to drivers.
The report noted that Chinese brands initially caught attention with unmatched prices, but Chinese auto manufacturers are becoming more competitive in terms of technology, design, and safety.
The report believes that this strategy has obviously worked. In the past year, BYD's sales in Australia have increased by 103%; Chery's sales have surged by 234%; and Great Wall Motors, which entered the Australian market earlier, has still achieved a 14% increase despite its high base.
Booth said that the data from the "Car Sales" website shows that Chinese-made cars are increasingly popular "not only because of their prices, but also because of the value they offer."
Booth said: "Many Chinese cars' quality and technology are comparable or even superior to those of competitors, and their prices are often more affordable."
"Although design preferences vary from person to person, it is clear that buyers are increasingly recognizing the appeal of these cars, not just because of their prices."
Costello said that an increasing number of buyers are considering purchasing Chinese brand cars.
He said: "It is obvious that although some buyers still hold reservations, an increasing number of buyers will choose more affordable Chinese cars because they favor their extended warranty periods, cutting-edge technology, and modern designs." (Compiled by Zhang Lin)
