The US President Trump is building a new banquet hall at the White House, and construction teams have recently demolished parts of the existing White House buildings for renovation. Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton strongly criticized Trump.
On October 21, Hillary Clinton shared the news on social media platform X, writing: "This is not his house, this is not your house, he is destroying it."
Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary, said on October 21 during an interview with ABC: "The people's White House has basically been sold to the highest bidder. The core is corruption."
She later added that Trump is destroying the White House, which is a metaphor for everything happening in this country.
According to a report by NBC on October 20, a government official said that construction teams began demolishing part of the East Wing of the White House on October 20, which is part of Trump's project to build a new banquet hall.

Trump said in July that the project "would not interfere with the existing buildings." Trump said at the time, "The new banquet hall will be close to the existing buildings, but will not touch them, and will fully respect the existing buildings. I most appreciate the existing buildings."
NBC asked the White House how many buildings it planned to demolish and why this happened even after Trump promised not to affect the existing buildings themselves. The White House did not respond immediately.
Construction of the new banquet hall has already begun last month. Trump mentioned the project at a White House event on October 20, saying, "We are building a banquet hall."
The East Wing of the White House is connected to the White House complex and is part of it. It is usually used by the First Lady and her staff; before the demolition work started, several assistants moved out of their office spaces.
The New York Times also pointed out that Trump promised that the construction would not "interfere with the existing buildings," but considering the scale of the plan, this promise seems unrealistic.

According to a report on July 31 from the Wall Street Journal website, US President Trump will spend $200 million to build a banquet hall in the East Wing of the White House in the style of Mar-a-Lago, marking the latest and most ambitious renovation of the complex by this former builder.
Construction began in September this year and is expected to be completed before Trump's term ends. Trump had complained that the White House does not have large enough rooms for hosting large state dinners indoors. The White House stated that the project funding will come from donations by Trump and "other patriotic donors," and the Secret Service will provide security.
