The Trump administration is temporarily reassigning lawyers from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the agency responsible for lawful immigration services, to the Department of Justice to accelerate efforts to revoke naturalized U.S. citizenship, despite these lawyers lacking experience in courtroom proceedings or denaturalization cases. The burden of proof in denaturalization cases is substantial, yet this remains a top priority for Trump administration officials who are actively searching within the legal immigration system for instances of fraud. Earlier reports indicated that Department of Justice officials have preliminarily identified 385 individuals who may face denaturalization charges. During Trump's first term, USCIS claimed to have identified 2,500 potential cases, but only referred a small fraction of them to the Department of Justice.
