The Hindu, May 4 report: India holds the 11th Heads of Missions Conference, calling for "telling India's story" abroad. From April 28 to 30, Prime Minister Modi chaired the 11th Heads of Missions Conference. During the meeting, Modi urged overseas diplomats to proactively convey positive messages about India; he also emphasized neighboring countries as a priority in India’s foreign policy and announced plans to dispatch more experienced diplomats, citing inefficiencies in India’s current external communication and public opinion response mechanisms. The conference also announced the appointment of veteran politician Dinesh Trivedi as India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh. This marks the first such gathering in four years. Notably, India is set to host multiple diplomatic events in the coming period. On the international front, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is currently visiting three Caribbean Community nations, followed by chairing the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting on May 14–15. Earlier, the BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers’ Meeting failed to issue a joint statement due to disagreements between Iran and the UAE, as well as divergent positions among members on the Israel-Palestine issue. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit five countries—Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Italy, and the Vatican—from May 15 to 20, attending the Nordic-India Summit along the way, with a stopover in the UAE. The trip will focus on advancing cooperation in trade, defense, green technology, and artificial intelligence. On the domestic front, India will host Vietnam’s President and Cyprus’s President this month, while organizing the Indian Ocean Dialogue, the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the India-Africa Summit—an event held after more than a decade. India will also host the BRICS Summit this year and is expected to host the Quad Leaders’ Summit.
