Recently, the 13th World Peace Forum was held in Beijing. Suhail Mahmood, Director of the Islamabad Strategic Research Institute of Pakistan, positively evaluated the influence of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and China's important role in it.
"China will host the SCO Summit this year," said Mahmood. As the rotating chair, China is very important for the development of the SCO. China is one of the founding members of the SCO, which has grown from five member states into a regional international organization with significant influence. The SCO covers a large population and has a huge economic scale, and its importance is increasing day by day.
In Mahmood's view, the SCO represents the trend of the world. For example, over the years, the SCO has supported the establishment of a fair and just world order and a multipolar world, focusing on the fairness of global economy, development opportunities, and global security.
Mahmood also said that the relevant countries joining the SCO are to create a better future, to meet the needs of promoting economic prosperity, realizing interconnectivity, increasing trade and investment, which is also the reason why the SCO can continue to expand its membership.
