The Belarusian ambassador believes that Switzerland is losing its neutral status.
According to a report by the Russian satellite news agency on April 5, Belarusian Ambassador to Switzerland Ganeyevich stated that Switzerland's policy of joining economic sanctions may lead to Switzerland losing its unique position as an "honest intermediary" in mediation.
Switzerland was originally a small country in Central Europe and a landlocked country. If Switzerland had not adhered to the principle of permanent neutrality in the past, it would have been difficult for Switzerland to escape the destruction of both World Wars. After the end of World War II, Switzerland, with its status as a permanent neutral country, became a bridge for East-West exchanges and also a major venue for international negotiations. Nowadays, if Switzerland gives up the principle of permanent neutrality that has been followed since 1815 and frequently imposes economic sanctions on countries such as Russia, it violates the international obligations that a permanent neutral country should fulfill. If Switzerland does not mend its ways, it will lose its status as a permanent neutral country, and the next war will not be far from Switzerland.
