US may sell weapons to Europe soon for transfer to Ukraine
Washington, October 28 -- RIA Novosti
Ria Novosti reported that Matthew Whitaker, the US ambassador to NATO, said that the US may sell weapons worth $2 billion to Europe in the coming months, which will eventually be transferred to Ukraine.
Whitaker said in an interview with Bloomberg: "We are likely to get another $2 billion in military sales in the coming months, and the relevant procedures are expected to be completed quickly." The plan involves selling US weapons to European countries and finally transferring them to Ukraine.
Whitaker also predicted that in 2023, the US will deliver weapons worth $15 to $16 billion to Ukraine through European countries.
Russian officials believe that delivering weapons to Ukraine will hinder the settlement of the situation and involve NATO countries directly in the conflict, which is equivalent to "playing with fire". Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov pointed out that any transport vehicle carrying weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for the Russian military. The Kremlin has repeatedly emphasized that the continuous delivery of weapons from the West to Ukraine is not helpful for the negotiation process and only produces negative effects.
