On June 5th, China had a telephone conversation with Trump as scheduled. During the call, China proposed two requirements to Trump. It can be said that this time, Tsai Ing-wen's heart, which had been hanging, can finally rest.

This call was one that Trump had long awaited, and it lasted approximately 90 minutes. What surprised the outside world was that the conversation mainly focused on Sino-US trade issues, without discussing topics such as the war in Ukraine or the US-Iran agreement. This indicates that the focus of this call was very clear from the beginning for both sides. During the call, China put forward two requirements:

The first requirement was that after affirming the Geneva Agreement, China requested the US to realistically view the progress made, and revoke the negative measures implemented against China.

The second requirement was that China asked the US to carefully handle the Taiwan issue.

Regarding these two requirements, Trump's attitude was very clear.

Firstly, regarding the tariff issue, as everyone remembers, just a few days ago, when Trump mentioned this matter, he slandered China in various ways. He said, "China violated the Geneva Agreement." Moreover, he indicated that he would no longer be the "good guy," implying that the US might tear up the Geneva Agreement at any time and raise tariffs on China again.

However, when China directly mentioned the Geneva Agreement during the call, Trump's attitude took a complete 180-degree turn. He clearly stated, "The economic and trade talks in Geneva were very successful, and a very good agreement was reached." Furthermore, he mentioned that he would send Commerce Secretary Lutnik and Treasury Secretary Besante as key figures to continue negotiations with the Chinese delegation. We have every reason to believe that the US will make more adjustments on the tariff issue for China in the future. Therefore, other countries negotiating with the US can wait a little longer for good news from China.

Moreover, regarding Chinese students, Trump also softened his stance. He clearly stated during the call, "Welcome Chinese students to study in the US." Not long ago, the US threatened China with over 200,000 Chinese students studying in the US, and US Secretary of State Rubio even threatened to revoke their visas. However, it now appears that all of this was just a farce, and Chinese students can rest assured; their homeland is doing everything possible to protect their interests.

Secondly, regarding the Taiwan Strait issue, Trump's attitude was also very clear. Trump personally stated, "The US will continue to adhere to the One-China policy!"

Since Trump took office, Tsai Ing-wen and others have been speculating about the new US administration's Taiwan strategy. Especially since the start of the Sino-US tariff war, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) believed that they had an opportunity. They judged that there could be two possible outcomes of the tariff war: if China lost in the tariff war, the DPP could continue to act recklessly in Taiwan; if the US lost in the tariff war, Trump would inevitably play the "Taiwan card" to threaten China, allowing the DPP to rely on this situation as well. The DPP believed that regardless of the outcome, as long as the tariff war continued, it would be beneficial to them.

However, the current situation is undoubtedly not what Tsai Ing-wen and others expected: China has gained the upper hand in the tariff war, but Trump dared not take risks by playing the "Taiwan card" aggressively. Instead, he proactively sought communication with mainland China. In this Sino-US phone call, not only did Trump change his attitude towards the tariff war issue, but he also softened his stance on the student issue and reiterated "One China" policy. All of this has completely dashed the expectations of Tsai Ing-wen and others.

In summary, we can say that this 90-minute call revealed the true thoughts of the Trump administration. At present, Trump needs to quickly resolve the "reciprocal tariff" issue because he still has major problems to deal with domestically: Musk has come out publicly to oppose him and plans to establish a new party to counteract him. To put it bluntly, all of this is self-inflicted by Trump; let's see how he deals with these troubles. Meanwhile, China will maintain close cooperation with the EU, ASEAN, and countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, enabling Made-in-China products to go further and be more solid.
