UAE Aims to Assist the U.S. and Its Allies in Forcefully Opening the Strait of Hormuz

According to several anonymous Arab officials cited by The Wall Street Journal, the UAE is preparing to assist the United States and its allies in forcibly reopening the Strait of Hormuz through military means.

The report states: "The UAE is preparing to assist the U.S. and other allies in using force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz."

The newspaper noted that the UAE is lobbying for a UN Security Council resolution authorizing such action. UAE representatives said diplomats have urged the U.S., European, and Asian countries to form a coalition aimed at forcibly opening the strait through military force.

According to this official, the UAE is actively considering the possibility of military intervention measures to ensure the strait’s security and is working to conduct mine-clearing operations.

On February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched multiple strikes against targets inside Iran, including an attack on Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory missile strikes against Israeli territory and U.S. military targets in the Middle East. As a result, shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has sharply declined.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical conduit through which Gulf nations export oil and liquefied natural gas to global markets, with approximately 20% of the world’s oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas passing through it.
